Julia Klagsbrun paints modern portraits. Sometimes this means painting a person, or a family. Sometimes this means painting a pet or a house. Sometimes it can mean painting a favorite meal, or the table after the meal has been eaten. People can be abstracted to a pose, a gesture, a sketch — or even just a shape and color.
Julia started her career by launching her eponymous fashion collection, Julia, that was carried at Barneys (NY, LA and Japan), Neiman Marcus, and many boutiques here and abroad. She and her clothes were featured in Vogue, Elle, WWD, Lucky, V and in the New York Times Style section as well as worn by celebrities such as Reese Witherspoon and Chloe Sevigny.
She has kept her sartorial point of view, and you can often see clothing details at work in her paintings. Her painting style is more ready-to-wear than couture. Informal, chic, cool.
